The Canadian Red Cross and the Humanitarian Response Network are co-hosting an exciting, full-day event focused on advancing gender-responsive and transformative humanitarian action.  The interactive, World Cafe-styled event aims to contribute to a better understanding of best practice through frank discussions about the challenges, failures, barriers and successes in delivering gender-responsive and transformative humanitarian assistance.

We are inviting your organization to send up to two members from your team who have direct experience in humanitarian crises. The event will seek contributions from humanitarian practitioners who have strived to address gender equality and diverse needs among members of crises-affected communities, including those with differing abilities, LGBTQ2S+, elderly, indigenous and marginalised populations. We would like the event to include humanitarian actors from a variety of sectors (Health, WASH, Shelter, Cash, etc.) to ensure a rich discussion with a multitude of perspectives.

Expected Outcomes

  • Strengthened collective capacity to have a sustained, positive impact on the lives of women and girls, men and boys in humanitarian crises
  • The humanitarian community in Canada gains deeper understanding of the potential to advance gender responsive and transformative work in humanitarian settings.
  • Development of a practical humanitarian practitioners’ resource that will help inform and strengthen our work.
